About HAWS Summer Camps

Kids going in to grades 2-8 are invited to explore the world of animals! Campers get up close with our residents animals, participate in hands-on learning, and enjoy outdoor adventures—all while discovering how to care and advocate for our furry friends. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

What should we bring to camp?

Families should bring a labeled water bottle, snack, cold lunch, close-toed shoes, and weather appropriate clothing

HAWS Main Shelter: Campers will see 3-4 animals each day at our main shelter. The type of animal will depend on what we have at the shelter that day. We do not choose the animals at our shelter; they come to us, so we can’t guarantee a specific animal encounter.

HAWS Schallock Center for Animals: Campers will see our resident horses and goats. New this year, our Schallock Center for Animals (SCA) will have a focus on our resident animals (horses and goats). Campers will explore different topics surrounding those animals.

This year, we will have our horses and goats to socialize with campers. There will not be any shelter animals present at SCA as we always want to prioritize the health and safety of all animals in our care, and the main shelter is more equipped to do so. SCA will have exciting new camps this year for campers to try! Our main shelter will still host our popular camps like Gone to the Dogs and Kids N Critters (among other camps).

Cancellations made at least 2 weeks prior to camp may be eligible for a 70% refund. Refunds are not available for missed days due to illness or scheduling conflict.

We have changed the wording of our age groups this year to ease confusion due to summer birthdays. Camp is grouped into two age groups. Our younger group are kids going into (or rising) second through fifth grade. Our older group are kids going into fifth through eighth grade.

We try to provide a wide range of activities for campers. Though we will try to have some different activities, there will be some repeating as well.
