REPORTING YOUR LOST PET TO HAWS
When a stray animal arrives at HAWS, our ultimate goal is to happily reunite owner and pet! Receiving a lost pet report from the owner missing their pet greatly helps us in this process.
HAWS contracts with most Waukesha County municipalities as the intake and holding facility for lost pets. Per Wisconsin State Law, stray animals are held for 4 days before becoming property of the holding facility and being available to be placed for adoption. Animal-at-large fees, licensing, boarding, vaccination records and the like may be due before your pet can be reclaimed. Our Animal Rescue Team can guide you through the process to reclaim your lost pet, with information specific to your city or town. Please call us at 262-542-8851. HAWS is open 7 days a week and our on-call team is available 24/7/365.
To reclaim your dog you will need:
- Current rabies certificate or prepaid rabies receipt.
- Dog license for the current calendar year from the municipality you live in.
- If your dog was picked up by our Animal Rescue Team there will be pick up fees. Fees can only be paid with cash or charge.
Please note: Certain municipalities require cats to be licensed and proof of a current rabies certificate or prepaid rabies receipt in order to reclaim from HAWS.
