Animal Caretaker

We are seeking both a full-time position and a closing part-time position as an Animal Caretaker.

Full-Time Position: Must be available either Saturday or Sunday every week. Hours fall in the range of 7:00am-7:00pm Monday through Friday; 7:00am through 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday. May work up to 10 hour shifts.

Closing Part-Time Position:Must be available either Saturday and/or Sunday every week. Hours fall in the range of 2:00pm or 3:00pm-7:00pm Monday thru Friday; 7:00am-5:00pm Saturday and Sunday. *This is a permanent, part-time position and is not intended for seasonal or summer-only employment.*

Job duties include animal care, cleaning and sanitation, health monitoring, vaccine administration, animal handling, adoption support, customer service, record keeping and education and outreach. The qualified candidate will be flexible, enthusiastic and energetic.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar setting preferred.
  • Preferred knowledge of animal behavior, care, and welfare.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Required ability to comprehend technical/medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication (written/verbal and nonverbal) and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry animals and supplies, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods is required.
  • Proficient use of computer, email, and the internet and shelter specific software required.
  • Ability to work in environments with loud noises and strong odors.
  • Ability to analyze situations, identify issues, and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to manage and cope with stress in a fast-paced environment.
  • Required ability to be approved to drive HAWS owned vehicles through insurance and DOT; must be 21 or older and have a valid driver license (full-time position only).

Reports directly to Kennel Managers and Shelter Director
