HAWS doesn’t exist without volunteers – literally and figuratively.
We were founded 60 years ago by a group of volunteers who saw a need and acted on it. Initially our shelter was staffed completely by volunteers, until funding was available to hire a few employees to oversee operations.
Our mission is to help animals. Like all non-profits, we aren’t here to make money. The budget is tight!
Unpaid angels ensure HAWS can keep our doors open and our animals get the care they need. Every day, an army of Dog Walkers, Cat Cuddlers, Small Animal Caregivers, SNIP assistants, office helpers and more get hands-on – often jumping right in to do the dirty work alongside employees. And, our Friends of HAWS volunteers have been around since the beginning, too, creating and sustaining all-important fundraisers.
Next time you’re at HAWS or see us out-and-about, check out the folks wearing the HAWS Volunteer badges – and give them some love! (They work for the love of animals, we should continue to fill them with it!)
