#5: Milwaukee Admirals Dog Day
Why would you take your dog to a hockey game?
It seems like an odd pairing – bring your dog indoors to an arena full of ice to “watch” a professional team play. When the Milwaukee Admirals introduced their first “Dog Day” over a decade ago, HAWS was on board immediately, and it’s been a great example of teamwork and fundraising ever since.
Twice during the season, in late fall and early spring, the “Ads” welcome fans to bring their dog(s) along to the game. Separate tickets are sold for dogs and their humans, with HAWS receiving a portion of the proceeds. The Ads and their fans are very generous and have donated thousands of dollars to HAWS over the years – often assisted by shared corporate partners like Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
HAWS Mobile Adoption team is also a feature at these games, facilitating meet’n’greets between adoptables and fans at intermissions, promoting HAWS’ programs, and highlighting our adoptables on the Jumbotron. The Ads’ mascot, Roscoe – a big dog lover himself – does all he can to bring attention to our crew.
More than a few of HAWS’ adoptable dogs have found their forever homes through these games! And, we’ve also been able to catch up with some of our alumni pets, who attend the game for social time.
Who knew: dogs love hockey and the Milwaukee Admirals hockey team loves dogs.
