Your pledge of a future gift allows HAWS to keep a promise we made to our community long ago: HAWS will be here to provide the necessary resources to help all members of our community maintain positive relationships with animals. The love and care you have shown companion animals will live on through your planned gift to HAWS. 

Companion Circle

When you include HAWS in your will or estate plans, you become a member of our legacy society, HAWS Companion Circle.  This distinction is recognized by inclusion on our founder’s and sustainers’ wall in the main lobby of the shelter. The names of past, present, and future donors are displayed to demonstrate our gratitude and encourage others to follow in your generous lead. Additionally, you will be invited to an exclusive, annual Companion Circle dinner to meet with other members and receive an update on the shelter’s success and growth.

Money going to HAWS in an estate plan will do more good than smaller donations done perhaps by survivors. Monies going from tax-deferred investments such as IRA’s and 401K’s will not be subject to federal income taxes but will go to this non-profit in their entirety to do more good. Taking time with an estate planner will give you immeasurable satisfaction, knowing you have everything organized, legal, and going to an incredible resource in our community.

Bequests

Bequests can be directed to specific programs or to the HAWS Endowment Fund, which is administered by three qualified, appointed trustees. This fund provides a perpetual source of income for HAWS. Bequests are especially important because they enable HAWS to improve and expand its programs, services, and facility. By adding to our Endowment Fund, the earnings from your gift will allow us to fulfill our promise to our community and fulfill our mission for years to come.

Unrestricted gifts have the greatest impact long-term. They allow HAWS to apply for funding where it is needed most which changes frequently.

Formulating Your Future Gift to HAWS

We recommend consulting your personal attorney or financial advisor to draft legal documents with appropriate wording for making a planned gift. To help you with the gift formulation process, reference this guide which includes commonly needed information. 

Upon finalization of plans, please consider completing this Declaration of Future Intent document. This document is optional but can be used as a planning tool for you and or your personal attorney or financial professional. Should you wish to inform HAWS of a future gift, you are welcome to mail your intent document to Humane Animal Welfare Society, 701 Northview Road, Waukesha, WI 53188 as well.
