Spring is a time of growth. We will get our seasonal influx of kittens and wildlife, keeping the staff busy, out and about! As we look to the future, there are many areas where HAWS is on the rise!
We have a new opportunity to impact the humane world with the expansion of our facility, which is nearly completed! A little landscaping and some paint and we will be done! (Stay tuned for an announcement of our official grand opening celebration of our new areas. In the meantime, check out the album on our Facebook page for insider-look pictures!
With our additional space, we will be helping more animals. HAWS’ SNIP/veterinary services will expand to help our growing elderly population, area animal rescue groups and better meet the needs of our resident animals. Additionally, our Behavior Department will be offering more training services and consultations, both to keep animals in their homes and prevent the barriers to adoption for others.
HAWS’ Education Department has added “Tuesday Troops” – a volunteer program for middle school students, similar to our popular Critter Club. We are growing our relationship with Carroll University’s Animal Behavior Program and animal welfare group.
We have also seen growth with our existing staff and have added personnel! We have been busy shoring up our volunteer core, cross-training staff and hiring. We welcome Dr. Alissa Kielpikowski, DVM, to our SNIP team. She joins us with excellent surgical skills and is dedicated to saving and treating the many challenging medical cases coming through HAWS. Also joining us is Dana Leair, helping to bolster services for our fund development team, assisting with corporate partners, our Companion Circle and planned giving.
All of these things will enable us to meet the needs of our community’s animals and better serve our growing population in Waukesha County. It is an exciting time for us all.
